About the course

This is a two-year, full-time course suitable for recent school-leavers and adults alike. The course is designed to strengthen skills and knowledge of the sports, fitness and leisure industry and is perfect if you are interested in progressing to employment or study at a higher level within the industry. Throughout the course you will study 19 modules covering the sports and leisure industry, including anatomy and physiology, fitness training, nutrition, and psychology. You will also develop your skills in coaching, training and first aid. Alongside your sports studies you can join either our football or cricket academy and participate in the National Colleges Leagues and Tournaments.

What are the entry requirements?

You will need four GCSEs at grade 4/C or above including maths and English or a Diploma in Sport Level 2 qualification.

Where can I progress next?

Numerous students who pass this course progress to university to study a degree in Sports Science, Physical Education, Sports Coaching, or Sports Development. The course also opens avenues for employment within the continually growing sports industry, including roles such as leisure management, sports therapy, coaching, or fitness instruction.



Is this course free?

At South & City College Birmingham, we offer a wide range of courses for most age groups.

School Leavers: For learners who are between the ages of 16 to 18, studies will be free.

Adults: For learners who are aged 19 or over, the cost of study will depend on the course or programme that you choose. Some courses may even be free*. If the course is not free, students aged 19 at the start of their programme who wish to study need to either pay their course fees, or take out an Advanced Learning Loan.

*Eligibility criteria applies. There may be an exception for students aged 19 or over that are taking their first full Level 3 qualifications (equivalent to A Levels and Access to HE Diplomas), who could be supported by the Learner Support Fund, or free adult course funded by the WMCA.
