About the course

Are you a recent school leaver or someone eager to the first step into the dynamic world of mechanical and electronic engineering? Our unique Level 1 engineering programmes are designed to support you in achieving a Level 1 qualification in engineering by embedding a skills development and employability programme into the course. Mechanical engineering is the discipline that applies engineering physics, engineering mathematics, and materials science principles to design, analyse, manufacture, and maintain mechanical systems. It is one of the oldest and broadest of the many engineering disciplines. Working with our highly experienced team of lecturers, trainers/assessors and advanced technicians, you will develop the skills required in the 21st century manufacturing and engineering sectors.

From day one, you’ll not only learn the basic technical mechanical and electronic engineering knowledge required by the industry, but also the additional skills employers expect from their employees, such as time management and team-working. You’ll work with a range of engineering equipment, and you’ll also develop your craft using hand-tools.

What are the entry requirements?

You will need a grade 2 GCSE in English and Maths or Level 1 functional skills. You will be required to attend and work towards English and/or maths at Grade 4 as part of your study programme.

All students will also be required to attend and satisfactorily complete a formal induction period.

Where can I progress next?

After completing this course, there'll be plenty of options for you because you will have developed the skills which are in high demand by industry. You could progress onto our Level 2 engineering course, an apprenticeship or into employment.
