About the course

Has your dream job always been to work within the textiles, interior, or surface design industry? This one-year Level 2 Diploma at our Longbridge Campus will encourage you to cultivate an experimental and multi-disciplinary portfolio of work that aligns with your dreams and future aspirations. You will receive support from a team of tutors who are industry professionals with extensive experience in the fashion field. This course has been designed to enable you to explore a range of skills and then specialise in an area that will be supportive to secure your progression and career goals.

On this course you will learn about textiles, surface design, and interior design. The first part of the course will involve exploring all the options and then you will choose a specialism to progress with at Level 3.

What are the entry requirements?

To join this exciting course you will need:


• A portfolio of past or current work you can bring to an interview.


• Commitment and enthusiasm for fashion, textiles, styling or promotion.

You will also need to fulfil one of the criteria below:


• Four GCSEs Grade 3 or above including GCSE Art or Design

Successful completion of the course enables you can progress onto the Level 3 in an art and design specialism.



Is this course free?

At South & City College Birmingham, we offer a wide range of courses for most age groups.

School Leavers: For learners who are between the ages of 16 to 18, studies will be free.

Adults: For learners who are aged 19 or over, the cost of study will depend on the course or programme that you choose. Some courses may even be free*. If the course is not free, students aged 19 at the start of their programme who wish to study need to either pay their course fees, or take out an Advanced Learning Loan.

*Eligibility criteria applies. There may be an exception for students aged 19 or over that are taking their first full Level 3 qualifications (equivalent to A Levels and Access to HE Diplomas), who could be supported by the Learner Support Fund, or free adult course funded by the WMCA. Higher Education: If you are planning to undertake one of our Higher Education courses you can apply for a loan with Student Finance England, or apply for an Advanced Learner Loan with the college to support towards your course fees. Throughout the course, you'll participate in local and regional exhibitions, take part in live competitions, and gain local work experience. Inspirational talks by industry professionals will be provided. Opportunities involve presenting your work at our year-end exhibition and live events, and using our state-of-the-art facilities for a multi-disciplinary approach to your creative education.
