Drawing & Illustration Certificate
This course not only teaches you skills, how to visualise but also how to focus on an area and realise progression goals related to your future interests and aspirations. This course is supportive to you from the outset, content as well as setting you up to progress onto one of our Level 2 courses. On this course you will be shown how to be experimental and developmental with your creativity in context to pathway related work. You will be supported by a team of industry professionals with lots of experience in the fields of drawing & illustration.
Do you have an interest in Drawing & Illustration? Have you always wanted to learn to draw and illustrate creative ideas and concepts? Do you have a keen interest you wish to explore in materials, techniques and processes? If yes, this is the course for you. Drawing in art is a technique of producing images on a surface, usually paper, by means of marks, usually of ink, graphite, chalk, charcoal, or crayon. This exciting one-year Level 2 certificate in Drawing & illustration at our Longbridge (Bournville) Campus will introduce you to developing experimental skills & confidence. This course will help you to progress onto our Level 2 Art & Design Extended certificate. During your time on the course, you will explore a range of fun and exciting materials, techniques and processes related to drawing and illustration in context to themes. You will document your work and review your practice on an ongoing basis. The first part of the course will involve exploring skills and then you will specialise in a pathway that you wish to progress on to with us at SCCB next year during the Extended Certificate. Your specialist pathway work has the exciting opportunity to be showcased at our end of year exhibition and shows throughout the year. This course is designed to enable you to explore a range of fun skills and then specialise in an area that will then be supportive to secure your progression.
To join this exciting course you will need: A portfolio of past or current work you can bring to an interview. Commitment and enthusiasm for Drawing & Illustration. You will also need to fulfil one of the criteria below: GCSEs grade 1 or above. We look forward to working with you and helping you to kick-start your creative journey here with us at SCCB.
Successful completion of the course with a Merit or above can progress onto our Level 2 Extended Certificate in Art & Design to top up your qualification.
At South & City College Birmingham, we offer a wide range of courses for most age groups.
School Leavers: For learners who are between the ages of 16 to 18, studies will be free.
Adults: For learners who are aged 19 or over, the cost of study will depend on the course or programme that you choose. Some courses may even be free*. If the course is not free, students aged 19 at the start of their programme who wish to study need to either pay their course fees, or take out an Advanced Learning Loan.
*Eligibility criteria applies. There may be an exception for students aged 19 or over that are taking their first full Level 3 qualifications (equivalent to A Levels and Access to HE Diplomas), who could be supported by the Learner Support Fund, or free adult course funded by the WMCA. Higher Education: If you are planning to undertake one of our Higher Education courses you can apply for a loan with Student Finance England, or apply for an Advanced Learner Loan with the college to support towards your course fees.
