About the course

Whether you are a recent school leaver or an adult, this Level 2 media course is perfect for anyone who would like to work in the media industry. It will give you an understanding of the practical aspects of media production, Based at our Digbeth campus in the heart of Birmingham’s creative district, this one year course will give you the chance to get involved in exciting projects and work experience opportunities both within the college and for external organisations.

You will learn and develop a broad range of digital media skills and an understanding of the production processes involved in the media products you will create. Media concepts, audience research and industry investigation support the practical areas of the course, which will allow you to make realistic media products such as short films, music videos, podcasts and TV adverts.

What are the entry requirements?

You will need four GCSEs grade 3 or above including GCSE English language. All applicants must have a good reference and a keen interest in the subject area.

Where can I progress next?

On successful completion of this course you could progress on to a Level 3 qualification in creative media production to increase your career prospects or you could seek entry-level employment in the media industry in areas such as in TV, film or radio production, animation, publishing or the music industry.



Is this course free?

At South & City College Birmingham, we offer a wide range of courses for most age groups.

School Leavers: For learners who are between the ages of 16 to 18, studies will be free.

Adults: For learners who are aged 19 or over, the cost of study will depend on the course or programme that you choose. Some courses may even be free*. If the course is not free, students aged 19 at the start of their programme who wish to study need to either pay their course fees, or take out an Advanced Learning Loan.

*Eligibility criteria applies. There may be an exception for students aged 19 or over that are taking their first full Level 3 qualifications (equivalent to A Levels and Access to HE Diplomas), who could be supported by the Learner Support Fund, or free adult course funded by the WMCA. Higher Education: If you are planning to undertake one of our Higher Education courses you can apply for a loan with Student Finance England, or apply for an Advanced Learner Loan with the college to support towards your course fees.
