About the course

This fun and exciting Level 2 course is ideal for recent school leavers and adults alike that are seeking a career in either the media or photography industry. You will learn at our modern Longbridge campus (Bournville College) and have the chance to get involved in exciting projects and work experience opportunities, both within the college and for external organisations. If you are 16-18, you will continue to build your English and maths skills.

You'll gain media production skills, video editing, and interactive media experience within a photography studio. Additionally, you'll develop a broad range of digital skills and an understanding of production processes related to the media products you'll create. The course integrates media concepts, audience research, and industry investigation to support practical learning, enabling you to produce realistic media products.

What are the entry requirements?

You will need four GCSEs Grade 3 or above including GCSE English Language.

Where can I progress next?

Successfully completing this course can see you progressing onto Level 3 Filmmaking, Podcasting and Media Production, Level 3 Music Performance or Production or Level 3 Extended Diploma in Photography and Graphics in order to increase your career prospects. Alternatively you could seek entry-level employment.



Is this course free?

At South & City College Birmingham, we offer a wide range of courses for most age groups.

School Leavers: For learners who are between the ages of 16 to 18, studies will be free.

Adults: For learners who are aged 19 or over, the cost of study will depend on the course or programme that you choose. Some courses may even be free*. If the course is not free, students aged 19 at the start of their programme who wish to study need to either pay their course fees, or take out an Advanced Learning Loan.

*Eligibility criteria applies. There may be an exception for students aged 19 or over that are taking their first full Level 3 qualifications (equivalent to A Levels and Access to HE Diplomas), who could be supported by the Learner Support Fund, or free adult course funded by the WMCA.
