About the course

Whether you are a recent school leaver or an adult, this Level 2 Diploma in Music Industry Skills will give you the opportunity to develop your skills as either a performer or as a music technologist. You will study and practice in well-equipped music technology suites, rehearsal rooms and recording studios, and have the option to develop your skills in the areas you have the most interest in. The course is offered at both our Digbeth and Bournville (Longbridge) campuses. You will be taught by tutors who are passionate about music and are working in the industry themselves, meaning that you will get first-hand advice and information about working in the industry. At our Digbeth campus, we have an impressive 350 seat auditorium (The Crossing) that is used for performances and visiting artists.

You will create a music product – performance (musician/vocalist) or sound recording (music technologist) and gain broad knowledge of the music industry, exploring employment opportunities and various roles. You'll understand professional development, whether you're aspiring to be a studio engineer, musician, or composer. Discover the diverse offerings of the music industry and pathways to success. If you are 16-18, you will continue to build your maths and English skills.

What are the entry requirements?

You will need four GCSEs grade 3 or above or a Level 1 equivalent qualification.

Where can I progress next?

After completing the course successfully, you could progress onto a Level 3 Music course either specialising in performance or technology. You may also be able to pursue a variety of entry-level career opportunities such as becoming a professional musician/performer, sound engineer or producer.
