About the course

Are you a recent school leaver wanting to learn a trade and become an electrician? This course is designed to give you an introduction to electrical installation theory as well as the opportunity to develop your practical skills. It provides a foundation for further study at Level 2 and 3 and is designed as a starting point for those seeking to become trained electricians.

This course will teach you how to work safely in an engineering environment, perform engineering activities efficiently and effectively, communicate technical information effectively, assemble electrical wiring support systems, and wire electrical equipment and circuits.

What are the entry requirements?

To study for this qualification, but you must demonstrate a genuine interest in this subject, be prepared to follow high standards of behaviour and display a positive attitude to study.

You must have achieved a minimum Grade 3 in either Maths or English.

You must be prepared to be working towards improving your GCSE English and GCSE Maths,An initial assessment of your English and maths may be required depending on your qualifications to check you have the skills needed to successfully complete this course.

This qualification will allow progression to: City & Guilds 2365 Level 2 Electrotechnical (GCSE Grade 4's must be achieved for English & Maths)



Is this course free?

At South & City College Birmingham, we offer a wide range of courses for most age groups.

School Leavers: For learners who are between the ages of 16 to 18, studies will be free.

Adults: For learners who are aged 19 or over, the cost of study will depend on the course or programme that you choose. Some courses may even be free*. If the course is not free, students aged 19 at the start of their programme who wish to study need to either pay their course fees, or take out an Advanced Learning Loan.

*Eligibility criteria applies. There may be an exception for students aged 19 or over that are taking their first full Level 3 qualifications (equivalent to A Levels and Access to HE Diplomas), who could be supported by the Learner Support Fund, or free adult course funded by the WMCA. How will you learn?
