Fashion & Clothing Diploma
Are you aged 19 or above and interested in learning the basics of fashion, mastering industrial and domestic sewing machines, and creating garments? If so, our one-year Level 2 Fashion & Clothing Diploma at the Bordesley Green campus is ideal for you. This course challenges you to build a fashion portfolio relevant to the industry, exploring various technical skills aligned with your career aspirations. Supported by experienced industry professionals in pattern cutting, design, and garment construction, you'll also have opportunities to showcase your creations at our end-of-year fashion show and events.
The course will teach you the basic skills of pattern cutting, sewing and garment construction. This course teaches you basic skills related to the industry of fashion and how to visualise them in context to job roles related to your future interests and aspirations.
To join this exciting course you will need:
• A portfolio of past or current work you can bring to an interview.
• Commitment and enthusiasm for fashion, sewing, pattern cutting & garment construction.
You will also need to fulfil one of the criteria below:
• Three GCSEs grade 3 or above.
• Level 1 Qualification.

Successful completion of the course will enable you to progress onto Level 3 fashion courses or you could go into entry-level employment working in pattern cutting, garment technology, design teams and styling.
At South & City College Birmingham, we offer a wide range of courses for most age groups.
School Leavers: For learners who are between the ages of 16 to 18, studies will be free.
Adults: For learners who are aged 19 or over, the cost of study will depend on the course or programme that you choose. Some courses may even be free*. If the course is not free, students aged 19 at the start of their programme who wish to study need to either pay their course fees, or take out an Advanced Learning Loan.
*Eligibility criteria applies. There may be an exception for students aged 19 or over that are taking their first full Level 3 qualifications (equivalent to A Levels and Access to HE Diplomas), who could be supported by the Learner Support Fund, or free adult course funded by the WMCA. Higher Education: If you are planning to undertake one of our Higher Education courses you can apply for a loan with Student Finance England, or apply for an Advanced Learner Loan with the college to support towards your course fees. Adults may be eligible for FREE tuition through the WMCA's free courses for jobs offer.

This qualification emphasises hands-on practical learning, providing opportunities such as showing your work at various college events, such as the end of year fashion show . You will benefit from inspirational talks by guest speakers from the industry.
