About the course

Have an interest in working in the busy and exciting environment of an airport? This part-time Level 2 course is for those aged 19+ who are interested in a career within the airline industry, specifically working as a member ground crew. This could include job roles such as airside ramp services, facilitating safe airside operations at airports, assisting aircraft operations, or managing passenger handling. You will develop your knowledge and understanding of all the key responsibilities of the job, whilst also gaining some valuable study and employment skills. This course has a September and January start.

You will learn a range of skills including problem solving in emergency situations, handling customer complaints, presentation and selling skills. You will also gain the knowledge of customer service, sales and practical experience needed to succeed in the industry.

What are the entry requirements?

To study on this programme you will need either a GCSE grade 4 or Function Skills Level 2 in in English Language, or a full Level 1 vocational qualification and pass an English assessment.

Where can I progress next?

On successful completion of this course, you will be ready for your career to take off. The natural progression will be to either our Level 3 Travel or Tourism courses, or seek employment as ground staff employed by companies such as Swissport, Jet2, Ryanair or others, based at Birmingham Airport or further afield.

Is this course free?

At South & City College Birmingham, we offer a wide range of courses for most age groups.

School Leavers: For learners who are between the ages of 16 to 18, studies will be free.

Adults: For learners who are aged 19 or over, the cost of study will depend on the course or programme that you choose. Some courses may even be free*. If the course is not free, students aged 19 at the start of their programme who wish to study need to either pay their course fees, or take out an Advanced Learning Loan.

*Eligibility criteria applies. There may be an exception for students aged 19 or over that are taking their first full Level 3 qualifications (equivalent to A Levels and Access to HE Diplomas), who could be supported by the Learner Support Fund, or free adult course funded by the WMCA.
