About the course

Whether you're a school-leaver or an adult, plastering is one of the crucial finishing trades, highly sought-after in the construction industry. Plastering is a diverse and artistic craft offering numerous chances to showcase your skills. At our centre in Bordesley Green, we provide extensive workshops with professional-grade tools. Here, you'll be instructed by qualified, experienced staff with practical industry expertise in their respective vocational fields.

The course will cover essential topics including health, safety, and welfare in construction, principles of building construction, information, and communication. Additionally, you will learn to apply plastering materials to interiors, fix dry lining and plasterboards to interiors, lay sand and cement screeds, apply plastering materials to external backgrounds, produce reverse moulds for fibrous work, and cast and fix fibrous plasterwork.

What are the entry requirements?

Completion of the Diploma Level 1 in Plastering and have some prior site experience where you will need to demonstrate your skill level/knowledge at an interview. If you are 16-19 years old have not achieved your maths and English to GCSE Grade 4, you will study for these alongside this course.

Where can I progress next?

You could progress on to study the Diploma in Plastering Level 3 at the college to increase your skills and employability, another Level 3 course in the construction industry or seek entry-level employment as a plasterer.



Is this course free?

At South & City College Birmingham, we offer a wide range of courses for most age groups.

School Leavers: For learners who are between the ages of 16 to 18, studies will be free.

Adults: For learners who are aged 19 or over, the cost of study will depend on the course or programme that you choose. Some courses may even be free*. If the course is not free, students aged 19 at the start of their programme who wish to study need to either pay their course fees, or take out an Advanced Learning Loan.

*Eligibility criteria applies. There may be an exception for students aged 19 or over that are taking their first full Level 3 qualifications (equivalent to A Levels and Access to HE Diplomas), who could be supported by the Learner Support Fund, or free adult course funded by the WMCA. How will you learn?
