About the course

Are you a recent school leaver interested in a career in fashion and retail? This Level 2 in Fashion, Business, and Retail encompasses the entire retail process — spanning trend forecasting, market level identification, research, design conception, sustainability, and supply chains, all the way to the final destination, be it a retail environment or an online shop. The majority of employment opportunities in fashion-related sectors are concentrated in the retail of clothing. Specifically, the industry accounts for 75% of all jobs related to fashion, employing a workforce of around 414,000 people.

You will gain a general overview of modern fashion business functions and retail practice of the fashion retail sectors including employer opportunities and pathways for further study, potential career progression and the skills needed to succeed in this fast-paced industry. Modules include customer service, marketing, photography, design and setting up your own enterprise.

What are the entry requirements?

To join this exciting course you will need: A portfolio of past or current work you can bring to an interview. Commitment and enthusiasm for Fashion, Textiles, Styling or Promotion. You will also need to fulfil one of the criteria below: Four GCSEs grade 3 or above including GCSE Art and Design BTEC Introductory Diploma in Art (Distinction) or Merit grade plus 1 GCSE at grade 3 BTEC Introductory Certificate in Art (Merit or Distinction) plus at least 2 GCSEs at grade 3 or above NCFE Level 1 Art and Design / NCFE Level 1 Interactive Media

Where can I progress next?

Successful completion of the course can see progression onto our Level 3 Extended Diploma in Fashion & Textiles or our as Level 3 Extended Diploma in Styling & Promotion.



Is this course free?

At South & City College Birmingham, we offer a wide range of courses for most age groups.

School Leavers: For learners who are between the ages of 16 to 18, studies will be free.

Adults: For learners who are aged 19 or over, the cost of study will depend on the course or programme that you choose. Some courses may even be free*. If the course is not free, students aged 19 at the start of their programme who wish to study need to either pay their course fees, or take out an Advanced Learning Loan.

*Eligibility criteria applies. There may be an exception for students aged 19 or over that are taking their first full Level 3 qualifications (equivalent to A Levels and Access to HE Diplomas), who could be supported by the Learner Support Fund, or free adult course funded by the WMCA.
