About the course

This is a one year vocational course that will give you the opportunity to see this industry and all it has to offer. You will study on two NCFE qualifications (Travel & Tourism and Exploring the Aviation Industry) and cover range of different subjects and take part in various visits and talks to introduce you to travel and tourism attractions, destinations and organisations to further support you with your coursework. You will learn and practice customer service skills adapted to suit the travel and tourism sectors. Assessment takes place in a range of different ways from developing coursework, and presentations and will also have to undertake paper-based tests, all of which will build up to achieving two qualifications at Level 1.

Extra course opportunities include industry day visits, workshops and UK trips, as well as industry work experience opportunities, such as the Holiday Inn Hotel Takeover.

Have an interest in travelling? Fancy working with people in exciting roles such as cabin crew, holiday representative or tour guide? If so, then this could be the course for you! This is a NCFE Level 1 qualification which will begin to introduce you to work in the world of the aviation and tourism industries. It will give you an understanding of the types of organisations, careers and destinations that these exciting industries have to offer, whilst also gaining some valuable study and employment skills.

What are the entry requirements?

To study on this programme, you will need Entry 3 qualifications in English and Maths.

Where can I progress next?

Following your successful completion of the course, you will be able to progress onto the Level 2 qualification or to start a career at entry level in a customer service role within the Tourism or Aviation industries. Possible job opportunities will include roles working at travel agencies, hotels, airlines, airports and transport providers.

Is this course free?

At South & City College Birmingham, we offer a wide range of courses for most age groups.

School Leavers: For learners who are between the ages of 16 to 18, studies will be free.

Adults: For learners who are aged 19 or over, the cost of study will depend on the course or programme that you choose. Some courses may even be free*. If the course is not free, students aged 19 at the start of their programme who wish to study need to either pay their course fees, or take out an Advanced Learning Loan.

*Eligibility criteria applies. There may be an exception for students aged 19 or over that are taking their first full Level 3 qualifications (equivalent to A Levels and Access to HE Diplomas), who could be supported by the Learner Support Fund, or free adult course funded by the WMCA.
